This mostly upbeat ode to the trials of being an (in this case perpetually pregnant) housewife hints at some of the same struggles Loretta Lynn would paint a darker picture of on 1980’s “Pregnant Again” – what the American Dream looks like when you’re most woman, basically. The pair duet on this grungy track, Lynn sounding as vibrant and forceful as she had 40 years prior. It was hard to imagine an odder couple than Jack White and Loretta Lynn when they began collaborating in the early aughts – but the resulting album, Van Lear Rose, was not only a commercial blockbuster and critically acclaimed, it marked a stripped-down, hard-edged, and uncompromising artistic renaissance for the then-72-year-old Lynn.

The author's voice is fresh, witty, completely hysterical and something not easily found in today's book market. He passionately devours, worships and spoils Taddy's body and soul.ĪRC courtesy of the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Warner’s unparalleled and “supernatural” talents as an epic lover are dreamily described. He’s also a consummate gentleman and a heart-melting romantic. He’s a commanding male who exudes sensuality. They share an explosive chemistry, and the result is scorching hot sex that is both plentiful and satisfying. Both personalities are interesting, strong-willed, bold, confident, and self-respecting. It's in these passages, where the focus is solely on Taddy and Warner- that's where UNSCRUPULOUS truly shines and sizzles. These sub-plots and back stories do have their place, they propel Taddy and Warner to first meet and then later to re-connect. I found it taxed my attention to keep track of the many different characters' high stakes antics and scares. The plot is dense with erupting dramas stemming from each of Taddy's friends, family members and underlings. The story is packed with a colorful cast of characters who unabashedly live their opulent lives to the fullest. Set in a variety of exciting and glamorous destinations, the reader is treated to a dizzying romp on a global scale. UNSCRUPULOUS is a fun, feisty and super sexy erotic romance. So special in fact, that other than Peter there is only one member, an Inspector Nightingale, who eschews modern technology, dresses too formally, and has a tenuous relationship with the rest of the Met, only partly because he happens to be a wizard.
